Newark, NJ – Police Officer Killed in Fatal Crash at Bragaw AvenueNew Jersey Legal News
Newark, NJ (August 24, 2019) – Early this morning, around 2:37 a.m., police claim that an officer was killed in a fatal crash at the intersection of Bragaw Avenue and Aldine Street in Newark.
The officer was since identified as Omar Martin, according to authorities. They have said that a chase was initiated when an officer from the Hillside Police Department started to chase a Nissan Altima that was occupied by three men.
The chase ended in the intersection when the fleeing vehicle struck a Ford Mustang. The victim was pushed into a utility pole and tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Two of the men were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. Officer Martin was a veteran correctional police officer at the Northern State Prison.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident is ongoing.
