Gloucester, NJ – Pedestrian Accident Involving Cop on North Black Horse PikeNew Jersey Legal News
Gloucester, NJ (August 24, 2019) – A police officer was taken to the hospital this week after a teenager caused a pedestrian accident and dragged the officer approximately 50 feet.
At the time, Officer Craig Walsh was on patrol near the Howard Johnson Hotel along North Black Horse Pike. He suddenly saw a teen running from the hotel into the passenger’s side of a vehicle that was parked in the middle of the driveway.
Walsh put on his police lights and went to the side of the vehicle, where he noticed there were two 17-year-old males inside. The officer started speaking with them, which is when the driver started the car and put it into reverse while Walsh was leaning inside the window.
Walsh was pinned inside the vehicle and dragged approximately 50 feet before the driver ran the vehicle into a tree and ran over the officer’s foot.
Walsh was able to keep the two minors from leaving until other police arrived. He was then taken to the Cooper Hospital, where he was treated for bruises and injuries to his arms, ankles, and knees.
Both teens have since been charged with aggravated assault of an officer and various drug offenses after cannabis and paraphernalia was found in the vehicle.
At this time, the investigation continues.
We would like to extend our sincerest thoughts to the officer recovering from injuries at this time.
