East Brunswick, NJ (August 12, 2019) – On Sunday night, August 11th, police responded to the scene of a fatal crash that took place on the Old Bridge Turnpike and killed two individuals.
At the time, a fire chief was responding to a call with emergency lights and sirens activated. The accident took place around 7:30 p.m. when the officer’s SUV collided with the other vehicle for reasons that are not yet known.
Authorities have not yet identified the couple, as their family is still being notified. The chief who struck the couple’s vehicle is being placed on administrative leave while the facts of the case are viewed.
The couple, a man and woman from South River, were taken to the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital immediately following the collision, but while there, they were pronounced deceased.
The investigation into the accident continues at this time.
